Personal Safety & Robbery Prevention Workshop

Note: This event will be held in the Lecture Room on the southernmost end of the building; enter through the door near the flagpole.

Come out to this FREE workshop for adults of all ages. Self defense expert Mary Brandl will demonstrate what you need to know to reduce your vulnerability to robbery and assault.

Learn to recognize a potential attacker in the making, as well as the roles body language, eye contact, tone of voice, and assertiveness can play in averting potential trouble.

Neighborhood Name Review Committee

A committee has formed to find out how neighbors feel about the current name of the neighborhood and if there is a desire for change. 

At the first meeting, the committee will establish a regular meeting schedule, discuss the South Uptown process/report  and begin strategizing.

Kick off the holiday season by spreading good cheer!  

Gather at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, 3450 Irving Ave S, at 6:30 p.m. (meet in the Meeting Room #2). We'll bundle up and sing our way through the streets of East Calhoun from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. End the evening with snacks and social time at a neighborhood home.

ECCO Annual Meeting

Join us for the ECCO Annual Meeting

Pizza & Socializing 6:00 p.m.  Meeting 6:30-8:30 p.m.

  • Update on Minneapolis 2040 from City representative to be determined. NOTE: Mayor Frey and Council President Bender are not available to join us. 

  • Share your feedback about Minneapolis 2040 with the ECCO Board.

  • Learn about ECCO events and programs.

  • Elect new ECCO board members. Nominations will be accepted before and at the meeting. Renters, homeowners, new to the neighborhood, young and old welcome!

Informal feedback needed:
As of June 2018, the US government recognizes Bde Maka Ska as the name of the lake our neighborhood borders. We will be gathering feedback from residents at the annual meeting about the name of the neighborhood. This is an opportunity to provide your input and to begin a community conversation.

New board members needed!
Six of 13 positions on the ECCO Board (plus two alternates) are open for election. A term is two years long. Nominations are made and voted on at the Annual Meeting. Submit your own name for nomination either in advance of (nomination form available here) or at the Annual Meeting. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and live in East Calhoun.

Responsibilities include attendance at monthly board meetings (first Thursday at 7 pm) and participation in at least one committee. Time commitments for each vary. Labor Day Celebration

Join us for all the fun and festivities! Parade, games, potluck dinner and bingo!

  • Parade featuring the Southwest High Marching Band begins at 3:00 p.m.
    Arrive at 2:30 p.m. to decorate bikes, strollers, pets, etc! 
    Decorating supplies will be available.
  • Games for all ages.
  • Potluck dinner at 4:15 p.m. Please bring a dish to share for the potluck dinner.  
    Note: Chipotle is NOT able to donate burritos this year so main dishes are needed. 
  • Bingo starts after dinner.

Ward 10 Meeting for Minneapolis 2040

Join Ward 10 Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender and Heather Worthington, Minneapolis' Director of Long-Range Planning, to hear about Minneapolis 2040, the City's draft Comprehensive Plan. 

An overview of the draft plan will be presented. Ask your questions and share your thoughts. This document will guide Minneapolis' growth in the coming decades, and addresses a broad range of issues including housing, transportation, equity, sustainability, our local economy and more.   

The draft Minneapolis 2040 plan is open for public comment until July 22. See the draft and learn more here: minneapolis2040.com.
