Southwest Communities "Future of Neighborhood Associations” Conversation

The neighborhood organizations of Southwest Minneapolis, in partnership with the Minneapolis Department of Neighborhood and Community Relations, invite you to come discuss your viewpoint regarding the future of neighborhood associations, including creating stable communities through respecting residents’ voices and empowering local solutions. 

Attendees will work with other Southwest residents to discuss current and future challenges facing neighborhoods and suggest policy and funding streams to support communities to creatively address these challenges.

All are welcome! Free dinner and childcare provided. Share a community meal prepared by Marhaba Grill; childcare provided for kids ages 6 mo - 12 years.

Saturday, June 3 marks the 45th annual ECCO Super Sale.

Sale hours: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  

The Super Sale is an annual event sponsored by the ECCO Board in which
all ECCO residents are are invited to have a garage or yard sale on the same day. 
We widely publicize this event so don't miss out on the chance to cash in on cleaning out!

Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction Informational Meeting

Learn about plans for the Hennepin Ave S (Lake St to 36th St W) reconstruction.

Minneapolis Public Works will hold an information meeting to present the recommended concept for the street and discuss next steps for the project. 

The meeting will consist of a presentation format, rather than the open house format of the two previous meetings. 

If you cannot attend the April 27 meeting, all materials presented will be posted on the project website following the meeting.

Earth Day Clean Up at Lake Calhoun

Join your East Calhoun neighbors in this annual Minneapolis citywide spring clean up. 
Meet near the Tin Fish at Lake Calhoun. 

Volunteers needed and appreciated. Coffee provided by Nespresso and snacks will be offered to volunteers. 

Stop by and help as you can! No pre-registration required. Bring your own work gloves. Trash bags and directions will be provided.

Livability Committee Meeting

Weigh in on the plans for Hennepin Ave reconstruction project at the Livability Committee meeting. 

All are welcome to share your opinions to help draft a response from ECCO. 

Hennepin Ave (from Lake St to 36th St) is scheduled to be reconstructed in 2018. The project will include improvements to the roadway, sidewalk, and utilities.

 Minneapolis Public Works held an open house on March 9 and multiple street designs were presented. It is important to note the addition of bike lane (in both directions in one plan) and the reduction or elimination of on street parking.

Please see the project proposals here, scroll to page 12 for concept options between Lake St and 31st St, and page 13 for concept options between 31st St and 36th St. 

 All are encouraged to provide individual feedback to the city on the proposed options. For more information, go to the project website. 

The deadline for public comment is March 27.

Gather at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, 3450 Irving Ave S, at 6:30 p.m. (meet in the Great Hall). We'll bundle up and sing our way through the streets of East Calhoun from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. End the evening with hot cider, snacks and social time at the home of Marya Morstad.

Loon Lake Trolley Path Mulching Event

  • Loon Lake Trolley Path

Join your neighbors to help spruce up our Loon Lake Trolley Path. 

Meet at the start of the trail on 34th St just west of Irving Ave.

This wood-chipped walking path follows the old trolley line and is in need of some maintenance. We will be adding fresh mulch to the path. Please bring work gloves, a rake, and a wheelbarrow (if you have one). We'll have hot chocolate for all the hardy volunteers!

Nine positions on the ECCO Board (plus two alternates) are open for election. A term is two years long. Nominations are made and voted on at the Annual Meeting. Submit your own name for nomination either in advance (nomination form available here) of or at the Annual Meeting. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and a resident of East Calhoun. Responsibilities include attendance at monthly board meetings (first Thursday at 7 p.m.) and participation in at least one committee. Time commitments for each vary.
